1) What considerations led you to modify/change your original plan when you were in the process of developing your project?
When I was thinking about my face and where the highlights and shadows were suppose to be, I just had a general idea. Once I actually started to paint on my face, I started adding more details and had a better idea of where the darker tones and the lighter tones went.

2) What evidence can be found in your portfolio (Instagram and website) of how the exploration and revision stages changed your original idea?

During the process of painting myself as a painting, I made a time lapse video which can be found on my art Instagram. This video shows the evolution of the layers needed to create this finished product. Once you get to painting on your body, you start to notice more in depth where the highlights and shadows should go.

3) What emotions do you associate with the colours you picked for your design? How might other peoples associations of colour change the way they feel when looking at your work?
In general, I associate different shades of blue with calmness but also with sadness. It's a mellow sad. The fact that I did not smile in my poses, makes the feel of this piece stand out.

4) What criteria would you use when selecting an art work to present to your class? Would you use different criteria when selecting a work for a community art show? Why? What, if anything, would you do differently when creating your art work if you knew it was going to be displayed in a public space? Why?
When presenting to my class, I would choose a piece that has a lot of meaning and different ways of viewing it in order to start a discussion about it. When selecting an art piece for an art show I would choose a piece that I am proud of and that is eye-catching.

For this piece specifically, if I knew it was going to be presented in a public space, I would pay more attention to making sure that all the parts of my body that are visible are covered in paint.

5) What are some techniques you used to create the effect of light in a painting?

To create the effect of light on my face, I added white to the places where the light would naturally hit. Wherever I put highlights, I would put a shadow on top, underneath, or beside it. For this piece I really tried to exaggerate the highlights and shadows to enhance the look of a painting.
