Expressive Watercolour Portrait

1) How can you apply the results of your experiments with media to enhance the creativity of your work?

Throughout out watercolour unit we watched several tutorial videos which helped with learning different techniques. Every video incorporated a different technique so we were able to learn a variety of different techniques with brushes and colours. Watching these videos helped in our final piece because we were able to incorporate these techniques in our own way.
2) Why is reflection and revision crucial to the planning and production of your art work?
Planning is a key part to the success of an art piece. I think it's important to always have a rough plan on what you're going to do. Of couse, pieces end up changing and you never end up sticking to your original plan but I think that is interesting too, to see how you're piece evolved. Reflecting on your piece as you go through the process is a crucial in order to let your piece grow. stepping back mid-work is important to see what you need to add, and what you need to change.
3) In what ways were you successful in communicating your message?

I wanted his piece to be very expressive and more unique/abstract. I enjoy the component of watercolour where you're allowed to paint things in colours you would normally not use. I wanted to take that opportunity to use as many colours as possible which I think I succeeded in doing. I am beyond happy with the end result of this piece and I definitely reached my goals for this piece.
4) What would you change about your work if you could do it again?

If I could go back and modify my piece, I would add more detail in the background. I like how focused the girl is because there is no background but something subtle would be nice in the background
5) What techniques did you achieve to catch the viewer’s attention?

In our practice pieces I really enjoyed the effect that pen had. I applied that in my final piece but more subtle than I had planned. I was very contempt about how my piece turned out and thought that adding too much pen would be going farther than I wanted so I drew in less.

6) What copyright, ownership issues are associated to using virtual images as your subject matter? What should you do to properly source and acknowledge the proper owners?

It's important to give credit where credit is deserved. For the piece I found a picture of a woman off of Pinterest. I liked this picture because of the angle and the shape of her face. Although it was hard at first to get the angle right, it ended up looking proportionate in the end.
