Faces +

1) What was the main idea behind the artwork?

The main idea behind this art piece is that sometimes what you see on the outside and on someones face is not what is actually going on on the inside. I thought that wire would be a good material to use to represent what this piece means. The use of wire outlines the face and is meant to look plain and not very detailed. Once you take a deeper look and start seeing colours, you realize that there’s actually a lot more to what you thought was just another face.

2) Did you achieve your goals in the completion of this artwork?

When I first started this project I had a very clear image of how I wanted it to turn out. I knew that the final piece was not going to be exactly how I pictured it but I believe that compared to my original idea, it turned out pretty good and the meaning is still along the same lines. The image in my head was very big and I was planning on making the wire sculpture a lot bigger than it actually turned out. I think that that is okay considering that I haven’t had experience before using wire and that this experience with wire can set me up for future project.

3) Consider what was done well and what could have been done differently.  Make at least 3 quality comments or criticisms of your work.

Comparing my original idea with the finalized piece, I think that I was able to follow through with most of my initial ideas. The background turned out very much how I wanted it to. It is very much I imagined it to be. The sculpture part of this piece is where I struggled the most. I think that if I had spent more time getting to know how to work with wire, it would have turned out more how I wanted it to. If I had had more time, I would have spent more time on the sculpture part and it could have turned out more how I wanted it to. It still turned out good and still gives the same meaning.

4) What did you learn from this artwork that you could apply to future projects?

I definitely learned more about how to incorporate different materials to create one final piece which think is really cool. I learned more about how to handle and work with wire

5) What do you believe your next step should be, following this artwork?

Following this piece, I would definitely want to use wire in future projects now that I know more about how to handle and create sculptures using it. I would like to create a sculpture just using wire next time and on a flat base instead of what I did this time, using a canvas.
